The crises facing Los Angeles County—from severe food insecurity and the fentanyl epidemic to the marginalization of immigrant families—are massive. But the power of a united, compassionate community is so much greater. At Healing Los Angeles Together (HLAT), we do not believe in top-down charity; we believe in neighbors standing shoulder-to-shoulder with neighbors.
Whether you are an individual looking to give back, a local church wanting to serve, or a fellow Los Angeles nonprofit seeking a reliable partner, there is a vital place for you here. We operate on the foundational belief of dignity and belonging over charity. When you get involved with HLAT, you are not just checking a box. You are actively participating in the grassroots healing of South LA, Inglewood, and MacArthur Park.
You do not need a specialized degree, a background in social work, or hours of intensive training to save a life or feed a family. You simply need a willing heart and a belief in human dignity.
We have intentionally designed our volunteerism model to be accessible, low-barrier, and deeply rewarding. All new volunteers complete a brief, welcoming 15-minute orientation prior to their first shift, ensuring you feel confident, prepared, and supported.
Explore our core volunteer roles and find where you fit:
Join our highest-energy team in the heart of Inglewood. Volunteers at the Eat Manna Food Pantry help unload deliveries from the LA Food Bank, beautifully arrange fresh produce, and personally hand grocery bags to our guests. Because we operate a strict no-ID-required model, your primary job is simply to welcome every person with a warm smile, absolute respect, and radical hospitality.
Take compassion directly to the streets. Outreach volunteers walk alongside our lived-experience staff through encampments in South LA and MacArthur Park. You will help distribute vital hygiene kits, high-protein snacks, fentanyl testing strips, and Narcan. This role is about building quiet, consistent trust with our unhoused neighbors and offering a bridge to substance abuse recovery.
Throughout the year, HLAT hosts massive community health fairs and overdose prevention workshops. Event volunteers are the backbone of these life-saving days. You will assist with setup, guide participants to the right resources, help manage lines, and create an atmosphere of joyful community celebration.
Advocacy requires massive logistical support behind the scenes. We are always seeking volunteers to help with data entry, answering phones, and organizing resources. Additionally, if you are fluent in Spanish, your skills are desperately needed to help translate materials for our Mercy Seat immigration rights programs and assist monolingual families during intakes.
15 Volunteers Gave 10,000 Hours in 2025
The impact of our volunteer force is nothing short of miraculous. In 2025, a core group of just 15 deeply dedicated volunteers gave over 10,000 hours of their time to Healing Los Angeles Together.
This staggering level of commitment speaks to our 95% volunteer retention rate. People do not just come to HLAT to serve for a day; they stay because they find a true family. They stay because they can physically see the immediate, undeniable impact of their labor in the faces of the people we serve.
“I came to hand out food, but I stayed because this place healed me, too.”
“I originally signed up for a single Saturday shift at the food pantry because I wanted to get out of the house. I had no idea it would change the trajectory of my life. At HLAT, there is no dividing line between the ‘helpers’ and the ‘helped.’ We are all just people navigating life in LA. Getting to look a mother in the eye, hand her beautiful fresh food, and tell her she matters—it is the most profound two hours of my week. I have never missed a Saturday since.”
— David M., HLAT Lead Volunteer
To effectively combat systemic poverty, homelessness, and addiction in Los Angeles County, the nonprofit sector must fundamentally shift its mindset. We must coordinate, not compete.
Siloed social services force vulnerable people to navigate a terrifying maze of red tape, causing thousands to fall through the cracks. HLAT serves as a collaborative hub, seamlessly bridging the gap between grassroots street outreach and institutional care. We are actively seeking partnerships with fellow nonprofits, medical clinics, detox facilities, and legal aid organizations.
When you partner with HLAT, you tap into a robust array of community-trusted services. We provide the vital frontline engagement—building trust in the encampments, feeding the hungry, and reversing overdoses. When our community members are ready for clinical treatment, housing placement, or complex legal defense, we execute meticulously documented, trauma-informed referral protocols.
Institutional partners, hospitals, and county agencies trust Healing Los Angeles Together because our methodology is rooted in absolute reliability and unparalleled community trust.
Here is what you gain when you partner with us:
LAHSA & JCOD Integrated: We are a verified 501(c)(3) seamlessly integrated with the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA) and the Justice, Care and Opportunities Department (JCOD). We understand county compliance and strategic alignment.
Lived-Experience Staff Leadership: Our frontline workers reflect the exact psychographics of the communities we serve. Because our staff have personal histories with the justice system, recovery, and housing insecurity, we instantly bypass the clinical mistrust that often hinders traditional agencies.
The Warm Handoff Model: We never just hand a client a printed flyer and wish them luck. We provide “warm handoffs,” which means our staff directly coordinates with your intake team, advocates for the client, and physically ensures they arrive at your facility safely.
Guaranteed 48-Hour Callback: Communication is the lifeblood of effective partnership. We guarantee a comprehensive response to all agency referrals and partnership inquiries within 48 hours, ensuring no client is left waiting in a crisis.
Healing Los Angeles Together is proudly faith-rooted, and we deeply understand the vital role that local churches and Faith-Based Organizations (FBOs) play in holding our neighborhoods together.
We invite congregations across Los Angeles to step outside their sanctuaries and serve the city alongside us. We offer highly structured, deeply impactful service opportunities tailored specifically for youth groups, men’s and women’s ministries, and entire congregations.
Ways your congregation can partner:
Host a specialized Sunday Narcan training seminar for your members.
Organize a dedicated month-long canned protein drive for the Eat Manna Food Pantry.
Sponsor a “Congregation Serve Day” where your church takes over a Saturday food distribution shift, serving side-by-side in fellowship.
Looking for a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative that actually moves the needle in your local community? HLAT provides seamless, highly organized corporate volunteer days that serve as profound team-building experiences for your employees.
Trade the corporate boardroom for a morning at the Eat Manna Food Pantry. Your team will work together to pack hundreds of grocery boxes, learning firsthand about the realities of food insecurity in LA County while directly impacting local families.
Corporate Sponsorship Tiers:
For companies looking to make a broader philanthropic impact, we offer comprehensive corporate sponsorship tiers. Your financial backing can sponsor entire distribution days, fund our street outreach vans, or underwrite our massive community health fairs, complete with branded recognition for your organization’s commitment to Los Angeles.
Whether you are ready to sign up for your first volunteer shift, want to discuss a formal agency partnership, or simply need to ask a question about our programs, our team is ready and waiting to hear from you.
