Born and raised in Los Angeles California, Balmory Arredondo is a testament to the power of resilience and the possibility of transformation. Growing up in a broken home and raised by a single mother, Balmory faced significant systemic challenges early in life. By age 12, the pressures of his environment led him toward street involvement and substance use as a means of escape.
After navigating the juvenile justice system and later serving a 36-month sentence in the California Department of Corrections, Balmory reached a definitive crossroads at age 21. Refusing to remain a statistic of the streets or the correctional system, he committed himself to a new path. He returned to school, earning his high school diploma in 2011, and began the hard work of rebuilding his life from the ground up.
Today, Balmory is a devoted husband and father of two who has turned his past hardships into a blueprint for community healing. As a Co-founder and leader with HEALING LOS ANGELES TOGETHER, he has dedicated his life to serving those in scenarios similar to his own.
His mission is clear: to mentor at-risk youth, provide them with tangible resources, and show them—through the lens of his own lived experience—that while coming from a broken home is difficult, it is never impossible to find a way out and create a meaningful, positive future.
Healing Los Angeles Together is a local NGO focused on community-led homeless services across LA County. We turn lived experience into life-saving action through food justice, SUD counseling, and immigration advocacy.
